You’ve already reorganized your polish display and deep-cleaned the pedicure chairs. But what about the invisible clutter—the outdated client records, the services you stopped offering six months ago, the staff schedule that nobody actually follows? That’s the spring cleaning that moves the needle.
Why April Is the Right Month for a Business Reset
Spring is the calm before the storm. Mother’s Day in May, prom season, summer weddings—your busiest stretch of the year is coming. If your appointment system, staff setup, and service menu aren’t dialed in now, you’ll feel it in June.
These 5 tasks take less than an hour total. Do them once in April and your whole operation runs smoother for the rest of the year.
Task 1: Audit Your Services Catalog
Open your Services list and ask: When did we last do this service? If the answer is “I honestly can’t remember,” it might be time to archive it.
Outdated or rarely-booked services create confusion for new clients booking online and clutter your staff’s view of the schedule. Clean it up—keep what you actually offer, remove what you don’t.
- Remove discontinued services from the active list
- Update prices if they haven’t been touched since last year
- Add any new services you’ve been doing manually but forgot to put in the system
Task 2: Review Your Client List for Ghosts
Most salons have a growing list of clients who booked once and never came back. That’s normal—but it’s also a signal.
Pull up your customer records and look at who hasn’t visited in 90+ days. Some of them just need a nudge. Others have moved on. Knowing which is which helps you focus your energy on people who actually want to be there.
Quick win: Identify your top 20 returning clients from the last 90 days. These are your most loyal customers—make sure they’re being treated like it.
EasySalon tracks New vs. Returning clients monthly, so you can see at a glance whether your retention is trending in the right direction.
Task 3: Refresh Your Staff Scheduling Setup
Has your team’s schedule changed since you first set it up? Most salons add staff, adjust hours, or bring on part-timers over time—but the system never gets updated to reflect the actual reality.
- Update employee availability for summer hours (if they’ve changed)
- Confirm commission rates are correct for each staff member
- Add any new services each technician is now offering
- Remove access for anyone who’s no longer on the team
Getting this right now means your Payroll calculations will be accurate all summer—no manual corrections at the end of the month.
Task 4: Run a Payroll Report for Q1
April is a great time to look back at January–March before tax season closes out. Pull a per-employee earnings report for each of your staff and ask:
- Who had their strongest quarter?
- Which services drove the most revenue per employee?
- Are there any employees whose numbers look off—either too high or too low?
EasySalon’s Reports → Sales by Employee shows you exactly this. You can filter by date range, review service-by-service breakdowns, and export to Excel for your accountant. If you haven’t done this review yet this year, now is the time.
Task 5: Check Your Appointment Reminders Are Working
Automated reminders are one of the easiest ways to reduce no-shows—but only if they’re actually configured correctly. Spring is a good moment to verify:
- Are reminders going out at the right time before appointments?
- Does the message text still make sense? (If it references a holiday promotion from December, update it.)
- Are all phone numbers and emails current for your active clients?
A 10-minute check on your reminders setup can save you 3–5 no-shows a week when Mother’s Day season hits. That’s real money.
